Nandipura & Indravally Estates — Chikmagalur, Karnataka
Arabica micro-lots and Robusta parchment, grown at 3,400 feet under indigenous shade — handpicked, gently washed, and traceable to the block they came from.
The Estate
Nandipura and Indravally were planted in the early 1900s in the heart of Chikmagalur’s coffee belt — the district where coffee first took root in India. Five generations later, the same family still farms them.
The estates sit at 3,400 feet in the Western Ghats. Cool air and a long, slow ripening season do most of the work; we mostly try not to get in the way. Everything is handpicked, pulped the same day, and dried on the estate.
Today the estates are stewarded by Shricharan Jayaram, and hold Rainforest Alliance certification alongside membership of the Karnataka Planters’ Association.

Misty mornings — Nandipura Estate, Mudigere
Under the canopy
Our coffee grows in the shade of indigenous trees, not in cleared rows. The canopy stabilises the soil, feeds it organic matter, absorbs the monsoon and holds the temperature down — which is what lets the cherry ripen slowly enough to be worth picking by hand.
It also means the estate is an ecosystem before it is a farm. Wildlife moves through it. Bees nest in it. Pepper vines climb the same trees that shelter the coffee.

What we offer
Green coffee, sold direct from the estate. Buyers in Europe already take our Robusta parchment.
Separated by block and by picking round, kept apart through pulping and drying. Small volumes, cup-scored before release — for roasters who want a lot they can name.
Our awarded line, and the one already going to Europe. Pulped the day it is picked, gently washed, sun-dried on the estate. Export-ready in bulk.
Whole cherry dried in the sun with the fruit left on. Heavier in the cup, deeper and sweeter — built for blends and for espresso bases that need a spine.
From tree to sack
Every batch is traceable to origin, so each roasting batch carries distinct single-origin characteristics.
Only ripe cherry leaves the tree. Pickers go through the same block several times across the season rather than stripping it once.
Cherry is pulped the day it is picked. Nothing waits overnight, so nothing ferments before we decide it should.
Washed slowly and without force. The aim is a clean bean, not a fast one — the flavour built on the tree is the flavour we want to keep.
Dried on the estate, turned by hand, brought down to stable moisture at the pace the weather allows.
Every batch goes through visual evaluation and cup tasting. Only the finest beans carry the estate's name forward.
Each lot stays tied to the ground it came from, so every roasting batch carries distinct single-origin character.
The living estate
Sustainability here means a balance between economic growth, social development and care for the environment — held over a century, on the same ground.

Colonies settle on the shade trees on their own. We take a share, late, and leave the rest.

Vines climb the same shade trees that cover the coffee. Pepper thrives on virgin soil rich in humus.

The estate is unfenced to wildlife. A healthy ecosystem is the growing method, not a by-product of it.

Cupped blind, by strangers
In August 2002, Kenneth Davids and Chris Palmer cupped 15 Indian coffees blind for CoffeeReview.com — eight put forward by the Coffee Board of India, seven sourced by American roasters. Two of them were ours. They placed third and fourth.
Scored out of 100. Both reviews and the tasting report are still published by CoffeeReview.com, dated August 2002 — the estate has been in the same family, on the same ground, ever since.
In their words
Roasters, importers and friends have come up the hill, walked the blocks and cupped the crop where it grows. These are their words, unedited, from our Google profile.

A stunning location to experience and learn of life on a coffee estate. A charming bungalow surrounded by a seemingly neverending stretch of green — flowering and fruit laden trees, pepper, patches of vegetable gardens, sun kissed skies at dusk, mooing cows and friendly faces, green water bodies… what more could one want! Coffee lovers will be in for a treat — Nandipura's coffee is just out of this world. If you're not a coffee person, get ready to be converted one sip at a time.
Peaceful luscious coffee and pepper plantation in Karnataka. Loved the discovery of the coffee trees and pepper creepers. The scent of the coffee blossoms is mesmerizing: a bit jasminy and orangy, with some lemontree blossom nuances. No wonder their coffee beans make the best coffee and the pepper is so flavoured!
A beautiful estate completely away from all the urban settlements, untouched with natural beauty at its peak. There's pin drop silence, and you can see every single star in the sky. Sunsets are hands down some of the best I've seen, with the skies turning pink. Also, if you're into coffee, it's heaven for you.
Nandipura Estate boasts a wide variety of agriculture, ranging from premium coffee to wild honey. Its scenery is truly beautiful, with endless trees and refreshing lakes. As a truly self-sufficient farmland, it's a must-see for tourists and locals alike.
Nestled between the green mountains, pristine waterways, chirping of birds and crimson sunset: the estate is a bliss with serenity all around. Had the most enjoyable and memorable time with plush greenery as far as the eye can see.
Visited the estate with some friends, and loved every second of it. Truly refreshing to be this close to nature and experience the lifestyle. There is so much to learn about the process behind the coffee plantation and all the other activities that go on.
Visited the estate during the holidays with some friends — the air was that much crisper, and it was a really wonderful experience to be at one with nature. Would definitely recommend everyone experience this wonderful place.
Great place to unwind and relax from the stressful city life. Had the best time over there, with the best hospitality that one can imagine. Highly recommended.
